Tonsillectomy

What is Tonsillectomy?

Tonsillectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the tonsils and is recommended for two major reasons. The first is recurrent tonsil infections, or strep throat, particularly for individuals experiencing more than three infections per year. Removing the tonsils reduces the occurrence of these infections, leading to fewer days lost to illness and more quality time for your life.

Another reason for a tonsillectomy is the presence of overly large tonsils that obstruct breathing, especially during sleep. This condition can escalate to snoring and, more critically, obstructive sleep apnea, which fragments sleep and prevents deep restorative sleep cycles. Sleep apnea causes daytime fatigue, lack of concentration, and moodiness, with long-term risks including heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

Dr. Nima, leveraging the latest surgical techniques, specializes in tonsillectomy to enhance breathing, improve sleep quality, and elevate your overall health and well-being.

Benefits of Tonsillectomy

Are you a candidate for Tonsillectomy?

If you're suffering from recurrent tonsillitis, obstructive sleep apnea, or other symptoms related to enlarged tonsils, a tonsillectomy with Dr. Nima could be the transformative solution you need. Reach out today to discuss how this procedure can enhance your health and well-being.

The Tonsillectomy Process

01

Pre-Surgical Consultation

We begin with a thorough consultation with Dr. Nima, who will evaluate your symptoms, medical history, and discuss the benefits and expectations of the tonsillectomy procedure.

02

Surgery Preparation

The procedure is done as an outpatient and you get to go home the same day. The surgery is done under anesthesia while you are asleep for your comfort and safety. The surgery is performed through the mouth so that there are no external incisions. It takes about 20 minutes to complete. Patients with large tonsils will notice an immediate improvement in their breathing.

03

Surgical Procedure and Recovery

The main drawback of tonsillectomy is controlling the discomfort. You will be given adequate medication to control this. You will be limited to a soft food diet for two weeks to prevent complications after surgery. Dr. Nima will see you three weeks after surgery to evaluate the area. If you have any questions or concerns, you are free to call our office and come in for a visit at any time.
